REV Recreation Group has reached a new milestone with its Fleetwood RV Bounder Class A RV and they are celebrating the achievement with General RV. In March, the Bounder Class A became the 40,000th RV ever produced by REV Recreation Group and rolled off the manufacturing line to pomp and circumstance. This Bounder is making its way to General RV’s flagship location in Wixom, Mich., for an official private celebration on Monday, April 10. General RV will be the exclusive dealer for this unique Bounder Class A motorhome.
A look at the history of Fleetwood and Bounder
Fleetwood’s origins date back to 1950, when John C. Crean formed Coach Specialties Company in southern California, as a maker of window blinds for travel trailers. Around 1953, Crean renamed the company to Fleetwood, a name inspired by the automotive bodies incorporated into various Cadillac lines of automobiles.
The company experienced massive growth in the 1980s, mainly due to the Bounder Class A basement motorhome that Crean personally designed and introduced in 1985. The Bounder was the first motorhome with a basement. At first, most dealers shunned the taller vehicle, but the idea caught on because basement storage comes standard on all Class As today. The Bounder became the quintessential family vehicle, perfect for cross-country road trips. At one time, one out of every 10 new motorhomes sold nationwide was a Bounder.
Fleetwood Bounder Class A becomes TV star
The Fleetwood Bounder’s massive popularity eventually led to its primetime feature. You may recognize this RV from AMC’s hit TV series “Breaking Bad” — Walter White (Bryan Cranston) used this 1986 Fleetwood Bounder as a mobile meth lab. The original “Breaking Bad” Bounder was not destroyed at a junkyard, as was depicted in the series. The studio that owned the rights to “Breaking Bad” kept the RV and placed it on their movie lot. Visitors who take a studio tour can see the “Breaking Bad” RV there. There’s also a duplicate at the RV/MH Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Ind.
